Hiking at Antelope Island State Park
Located in the heart of the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island offers a variety of trails that cater to all skill levels. Whether it’s a scenic walk or a challenging ascent, Antelope Island has something special to offer.
One of the most popular and moderately challenging is the trail to Frary Peak. The highest point on the island, Frary Peak offers panoramic views of the lake, island, and surrounding mountains. I suggest bringing lunch and spending time at the top. The views are unbelievable. The trail has some narrow areas closer to the peak that can be tricky to navigate. In colder months trail running spikes can be helpful with the terrain.
Top trails to explore:
- Lakeside Loop trail: Easy 5 mi. 314 ft. Elevation gain
- Dooly Knob trail: Moderate 2.6 mi. 711 ft. elevation gain
- Buffalo Point trail: Moderate 0.9 mi. 239 ft. Elevation gain
- Frary Peak trail: Hard 7.1 mi. 2329 ft. Elevation gain
Wildlife Encounters:
As you hike, you’ll likely see a variety of wildlife including bison, big horn sheep, antelope, and a wide range of bird species.
Tips for hiking on Antelope Island:
- Bring plenty of water
